Merrill Friedemann co-founded our firm in 2012 after a long career as a plaintiff attorney and debt collection attorney with other Rhode Island firms. Attorney Friedemann is known for pursuing each of her clients’ cases with zeal, and has tried cases throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts courts, and pursued appeals to the Rhode Island Supreme Court and First Circuit Court of appeals.
Attorney Friedemann is a tenacious trial and appellate attorney with over thirty-one (31) years of practice in insurance defense, coverage issues, injury claims, product liability, professional liability and creditor’s rights/debt collection and business litigation. She has filed appeals and advocated for her clients at the Rhode Island Supreme Court. She has also appeared before the First Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston, Massachusetts. Attorney Friedemann has practiced in every state and federal court in Rhode Island, including the United States Bankruptcy Court.
Merrill is a proud graduate of both Providence College, Magna Cum Laude and Suffolk University Law School, Cum Laude. She has been a member of the Rhode Island Bar since 1991 and the Massachusetts Bar since 1998. She is a member of the Federal Bar and also First Circuit Court of Appeals.
As her particular interest in the insurance business broadens, the firm has joined Claims Litigation Management (CLM). She also lectured at the Autism Society of America Annual Conference regarding the IDEA Re-Authorization. She has presented professionally on Uninsured/Underinsured Insurance Coverage in Rhode Island, and is a frequent lecturer and resource for the Rhode Island Builder’s Association where she presents a course on construction claims and contract drafting for its members. She has also been a long-time advocate for persons with disabilities and serves on the Rhode Island Bar Association’s committee on Diversity and Inclusion. Attorney Friedemann was the Co-Chair of the Governance Committee of the Board of Directors for Southeast Asians (CSEA), which works to preserve its communities’ culture and traditions as well as providing programs and resources to advance and support its communities’ populations and future leaders. The CSEA board includes leaders in law enforcement, university professors as well as insurance, finance and retail.
She is also a member of the first DEI Committee for the Rhode Island Bar Association, the Superior Court Bench Bar Committee and the Continuing Legal Education Committee. She has been a past member of the Fee Arbitration Committee, the Supreme Court Bench Bar Committee as well as the Lawyers Helping Lawyers Committee. She is also a member of the Justinian Law Society as well as a member of the Pawtucket Bar Association.
